About a week before Christmas, Katie began to get sick at night and felt fine during the day. It was a weird thing that we couldn't figure out. We began to treat the symptoms but couldn't ever figure it out. Katie would have intense pain beginning at night and it would get worse as the night went on. During the day, the pain still existed but it was not nearly as bad.
On Thursday before Christmas (December 20th), Katie had another "attack" in the middle of the night. This one was much worse. Katie was having trouble breathing. At that point I knew that we needed to do something different that what we had been doing. I got Katie ready and we went to the ER. One blessing was that my parents had come into town that evening for a couple of days, so that were able to take care of Cale while we went to help Katie.
When we got to ER, they ran some tests and determined that Katie had gall stones in her gall bladder. The way that this is fixed is to remove the gall bladder through surgery. The surgeon met with us and made the same recommendation. This was another blessing ... the on-call surgeon is one of the best according the ER doctor.
So 1 month after Katie had her c-section, she went into surgery again to remove the gall bladder. The surgery went great but they realized that a couple of gall stones began to pass and got stuck in the bile duct. The solution is to have another procedure later it the day to clean out the bile duct. Another blessing ... the doctor who did this procedure is one of the best at what he does. Katie ended up staying in the hospital one night and went home on Saturday to continue to recover.
We were thankful that my parents stayed for a week to help us with Cale while we were in the hospital as well as the initial recovery process for Katie. The surgery and recovery made for a different Christmas but we were thankful that she is feeling better. Please pray with us that she continue to heals!
