Cale as Toddler Jesus

Our precious one was asked to play Toddler Jesus this past December in our church's musical program. He did so well (and I'm not the only one who says that!) :) He was in awe of all the music, lights, and colorful robes worn on the wise men who came to bring gifts. I must say that I didn't expect to have such an emotional response. On the one hand, I was so proud of him. He was just so sweet.
But some new truths hit me about this Christmas story that I have heard every year since I can remember. I don't believe it would have hit me had it not been my son up there. Having that emotional connection to him, it hit me anew that God sent His precious Son to this earth. As wise men came from the East and traveled so far to bring gifts and simply come to worship Him, God must have swelled with emotion, pride, and joy. And to know that God knew that one day He would have to watch His precious boy be tortured on a cross. A mother's love cannot grasp what our Father did in His love for us.
It also hit me that the men who came to see Him were the wisest and the intellectuals of the day. They were respected men. Yet, these men of stature traveled So very far to worship a toddler! Now, I know a toddler. Perhaps Jesus was like Cale whose words are hard to understand, who is not potty-trained, and who did not understand what was going on. But they came to worship Him nonetheless. Who would do that? Yet, it is not at all about the ones who came..... it reveals the Amazing, Infinite, Unexplainable God who is our Lord Jesus Christ.
